SCARC Operating Event in September at Rifle Gap State Park
March 15, 2026
We are pleased to announce our club’s special operating event on Saturday, September 12th at Rifle Gap State Park. Our plan is to set up a portable HF station and participate in the Colorado QSO Party. During the contest, we will also include a Parks on the Air exchange. The contest runs from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. We will set up on Friday afternoon and take down the station on Sunday morning.
We encourage you to make plans now.
Why are you receiving this message six months ahead of the event? Because campsites are filling up quickly. We expect many folks to come for all or part of Saturday. If you enjoy camping, please consider making an adventure out of it and camping out on Friday and Saturday nights. That gives you the opportunity to help with setup and teardown and simply hang out for a while. If members are interested, we will plan a potluck dinner for Saturday evening.
If you have any notion of staying over, get your campsites booked with Colorado Parks and Wildlife ASAP. Also remember that you need a Colorado Parks vehicle pass to drive into the park.
Reservation details
We have already booked the operating sites, numbers 47 and 48 on the upper Lakeview loop. Nearby RV / trailer sites include 30-36, and 49-54. Sites 9-29 on the lower loop are a short walk to the operating site. Tent-only sites, 37-46, are very close.
Let’s get on the air!
We look forward to your participation in operating CW or sideband, logging, and/or mentoring less experienced operators. Sideband operators especially appreciate logging help.
If you would like to operate with your own portable rig, plan to plug it into the club’s antenna and use the club call, with manual logging.
If you have questions, contact Mike Ferguson, K0MF. You can also read about awards and endorsements we can pursue during the event by checking out Mike’s presentation during the club meeting on March 14th.
